Actually, it must have been slashing to the basket to draw fouls. Minter, their UVA transfer I believe, only had 4 points. Butts a reserve center had 10, and Clayton a starting forward had 9. ASU's 3 starting guards had 10, 12, and 17 with a reserve guard having 11. That reserve and one of the starting guards were both 8-8 from the line.

Here's ESPN's right up of the game. If you go to their site and click the players for stats, they have Adam as a senior from Mesquite TX.

"BOONE, N.C. (AP) -- Kellen Brand scored 17 points and combined with Ryann Abraham to hit four straight free throws in the closing seconds as Appalachian State held off Virginia-Wise 82-77 on Monday.

The Mountaineers trailed by five points in the first half and had to withstand a second-half rally to avoid an upset loss to their NAIA opponent.

Jarrod Soles' jumper with 20 seconds left cut Appalachian's lead to 78-75. Brand then hit two free throws and after Bryan Sexton's layup with 5 seconds left, Abraham hit two free throws to put it away.

Eduardo Bermudez added 12 points and Jeremy Clayton grabbed 14 rebounds for Appalachian State (4-5), which overcame 16 turnovers by hitting 29 of 34 free throws.

Pance Kecev scored 20 points and Adam Hood added 16 for the Highland Cavaliers (6-8), who hit 13 of 34 3-pointers."

yeah then it looks like their guards got penetration...that doesnt bode well for UVa-Wise's defense, you gotta stop the ball

even if Appy State if more athletic, you still can stop penetration...it's the size difference that'll get ya

Yep, I was trying to see if CSTV would have any video of it. I hope to goodness it wasn't handcheck violations.

    I think it's a different Adam Hood.

    Re: UVA-Wise @ Appy St.

I went Monday night and watched King play Carson Newman...I'm gonna tell you right now, the Cumberland has pumped some major talent into these small colleges...

Dock had 19 for King, several assist and a few rebounds..I've not seen a stat on it, but I'm fairly certain he shot well over 50% from the field...If he wasn't the best player on the floor, he surely wasn't far from it, and he is only a freshman...Jesse McMurray from Gate City started and played most of the game in Carson Newmans loosing effort (101-67, I think), he went something like 1 for 10 or 11, with 3 points, as a junior...

Then you have Kecev and Hood at UVA at Wise, #2 and #3 in scoring, with Warner (Alice Loyd), Webb (Appy State, Redshirt), and Lindholm (Brevard), all on full rides...I'd say the Cumberland is more than well represented in local College Hoops...
